Essential oils for hair growth are excellent for cleansing, nourishing, and strengthening and sealing the hair follicle and shaft.These essential oils for hair growth stimulate the hair follicles to grow faster than the hair would normally. But remember that some essential oils are too concentrated and shouldn't be used directly on the skin or hair. So it's best to use them in combination with carrier oils like almond, soybean and sesame, chosen in accordance with the effect you're looking for. Choose the appropriate essential oil and team it up with carrier oil and soon, you'll find you have long, lustrous hair.


Here is the list of some essential oils for hair growth.


Almond oil

The composition of fats and fatty acids is very beneficial for almost all types of hair as it proves to be very nourishing, and softens and strengthens the hair. The almond oil also proves to be a very good cleansing agent. If you apply almond oil on your hair a few hours before you go for a bath, the sticky fats on the oil absorb and collects the particles and the particulates of dust and pollution that have entered your hair. Eventually, when you wash your hair, the whole mixture of oil and dirt gets washed off effectively cleansing your hair and your scalp.

Argan oil
Argan Oil has many benefits, but the best way to use it is for hair care. Many hair problems such as dry hair, lacking in shine and hair with frizz can be solved with the use of this wonder oil. The reason that it is so effective for damaged hair and has even surpassed jojoba oil and olive oil in popularity is because it is not only rich in vitamin E, it also contains Omega 3 and Omega 9 unsaturated fatty acids that provides nutrition to hair. It also acts as a shield for harmful UV rays and protects the hair from environmental pollution.

Basil and Peppermint Essential oils
Basil helps circulation of blood. Basil helps in growth of oily hair. Peppermint helps to stimulate blood flow to the root of your hair and so give it good nourishment and grow well. It helps in growth of dry hair. It is good for your hair if it grows slowly or if it is thinning.

Bay Essential Oil
This essential oil helps in growing your hair. If you have dull and lifeless hair, it will restore it with life and shine. Add six drops of bay and lavender essential oil to four ounces of warm carrier oil. Massage the mixture into the scalp and allow it to absorb for 20 minutes. Then wash with your regular shampoo, to which you've added three drops of bay essential oil. If you're plagued with dandruff problems or if you have aches and pains, use this oil for pain relief.

Burdock Essential Oil

Burdock essential oil is good for the scalp and encourages hair growth. It is also good for the skin, scalp and hair cell renewal, and stimulates blood flow to the root of the hair. It helps with the problem of hair loss

Castor Oil

The oil must be directly applied to the scalp and the roots and not on the entire hair. This is due to the fact that the oil is too thick to be removed easily from the hair Castor oil contains Omega-9 fatty acids which help moisturize the hair and the scalp preventing both from becoming dry

Carrot Oil

Carrot oil has many nutrients good for hair, including vitamins A and E. It promotes hair growth and can prevent split ends, which helps to retain the growth. If you use carrot oil regularly, it can strengthen and protect your hair and often makes your hair shinier and it will also moisturize your hair. When heated it make a great hot oil treatment.

Citrus Essential Oils
Oily hair will get a great benefit from regular treatments with either lemon or grapefruit essential oils. These oils condition the hair and clean the scalp. Warm or cold oil can be applied to the hair and left in for at least half an hour after which the hair can be washed with a gentle shampoo and conditioned.

Coconut Oil

It gets rid of dandruff, lice, pimples, etc. The effect of this oil is to nourish each strand of hair, by penetrating deep into the hair shaft, thus, preventing dryness and breakage. For using eucalyptus oil for dandruff, just mix about 9 to 10 drops of eucalyptus oil with your shampoo and then gently massage your scalp for a few minutes, after which rinse it off with water. Massaging your scalp with eucalyptus oil can stimulate blood circulation and thereby, make your hair healthy and beautiful.
You can also directly apply eucalyptus oil on your scalp and massage it gently with your fingers to encourage hair growth. Otherwise, you can mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil with a base oil like olive oil. Warm this mixture and then massage your hair and scalp with it. Now, wrap your head with a t- shirt and wait for about 20 to 30 minutes, before shampooing. This will not only improve blood circulation, but will make your hair shiny and stimulate hair growth. You can also add a small amount of clove oil to the olive and eucalyptus oil mixture, to make it more effective. Eucalyptus oil can be used for giving your hair an overnight treatment as well.
Apart from removing dandruff and stimulating hair growth, eucalyptus oil can increase elasticity of hair. This can make your hair stronger and more resistant to hair breakage and split ends. All these benefits of eucalyptus oil for hair can be attributed to both its medicinal properties and soothing aroma. The refreshing aroma of the oil can reduce mental stress and exhaustion, which too can go a long way in preventing hair loss.
Olive Oils
Olive oil is especially beneficial for dry hair as it aids the growth of dry hair. The hair is nourished and will regain its elasticity after a treatment with this oil. Olive oil is very rich in Vitamin E, which is very necessary for nourishing the hair follicle and shaft. If you experience hair fall or slow growth, massage your scalp gently with olive oil using your fingertips, before going to bed, and wash the hair using a mild shampoo in the morning. Doing this two to three times a week would increase hair growth and rejuvenate the scalp.

Jojoba Essential Oil
The healing qualities of jojoba oil are beneficial for extremely damaged or breaking hair. This truly is one of the best essential oils for hair loss due to breakage. Jojoba oil is often used in combination with rosemary oil in various hair treatment products. The resultant combination of the two oils makes for a very effective hair conditioner.

Rosemary and Clary Sage Oils
Rosemary encourages hair growth. These two herbs when used together externally prove extremely beneficial to anyone wanting to grow his hair. For best results, take a pan of water and boil rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock. Strain the loose herbs from the liquid and wash your hair with this liquid. Tea Tree Essential Oil

A few drops of tea tree oil can be added to olive oil for a mild but effective weekly treatment to deal with dandruff problems.

Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is used to treat a variety of conditions including alopecia (hair loss). It has been shown to promote the growth of hair and increase the rate of wound healing. In a study it was found that people suffering from alopecia who massaged their scalps with lavender and other essential oils daily for 7 months experienced significant hair re-growth. Thus lavender or a combination of lavender and other essential oils were responsible for the beneficial effects.

Tea Tree Oil

Thanks to its antiseptic and anti-viral properties, tea tree oil is widely used for treating a number of problems such as flu, warts, cuts and bruises, as well as for treating skin and scalp problems. It is very effective in treating dandruff and when used in conjunction with jojoba oil or any other carrier oil, it makes for an effective hair loss solution

Sunflower Oil

Rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, this oil is also rich in minerals like iron, potassium, calcium, etc Even folate and omega fatty acids are found in considerable amounts. Omega fatty acids are said to be good for preventing brittle hair and hair loss. Sunflower oil applied on hair is good for protecting the hair from absorption of ultra violet rays.
